I just discovered last night that there is a push to change neighborhood names. One of our neighbors sent an email to the rest of us. I don't like the idea, and don't understand why someone thinks its a good idea to make neighborhoods better by tearing away the identities they've had for decades and foisting a new one upon them--seems downright UNNEIGHBORLY--and so went to the Speak Up Edina web site to express my opinion. Not only did I not previously know that this site and opportunity existed, but when I got there to say my piece, I found that discussion had been closed in October.

What's the point of a forum if the forum is closed? It's like inviting someone to a party, having the party, but then locking the door, so that when some guests arrive late, they can see that there is activity inside but can't come in and eat the cocktail weenies. Very un-neighborly again.

THAT said, I don't want to see our Sunnyslope neighborhood name changed. Why change it? I mean no disrespect to teh group that worked on the project and issued a 204-page report (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), but I see no point at all to the exercise. What is gained from a name change. Why does anyone want to make it? Is there a dearth of sign-making and cartographic labeling opportunities? Did they not like our neighborhood entrance Christmas wreaths? Are the folks in Lesser Country Club Neighborhood giving in to their envy of our nice, big, juicy lots? Let Country Club be Country Club. And let us be us. Otherwise, I propose that we re-name Country Club to be "East Sunnyslope Extension." It's one word shorter and will cost less to put on the signs.

John, here is a message from Assistant City Manager Karen Kurt:

"Thank you for your comment on the neighborhood names. There was a series of three discussions on this site, the most recent of which closed on Jan. 15 to ensure that we could summarize the comments for the Council in advance of the public hearing on Jan 22. In retrospect, we could have kept the forum open longer. We will continue to learn as we have more experience with this new technology!"

We agree with other comments that have stated establishing these neighborhoods is a bad idea.  Let the neighborhoods be neighborhoods and please stop this unnecessary and unwanted political meddling by the city council members into our neighborhoods.  The city should leave this bad idea behind and move on to more important issues that need attention. Like explaining better these confusing bike lanes they keep adding.  The comments by the council that "we will get used to them" are wishful thinking on the councils part. They are confusing and we believe dangerous and will cause a bad accident at some point.

Your website is not user friendly at all.  I made my comment only to be not recognized and my comment lost.  This is a test

O.K. Now as I said several months ago when I first discovered this project after two meetings had been held.  Not one person I talked to in Edina had heard of it.  The attendence at the meetings and comments about this project showed less than 100 people attending meetings and very few comments.  I have been against this from the first time I heard about it.  Where do you expect these association meetings to take place??  In the high school auditorium?  You are ignoring the small neighborhood associations that now exist and would no longer be relevent.  I would like the person who came up with this idea identify themself and tell all of us how much time and tax revenue has been put in to this.  It reminds me of the similar situation with the airport.  What is going on with our Council???

Thank you for your comments. We are working to improve the user-friendliness of this site. We collected over 100 comments using this site during the course of the project. You can find  a summary of comments collected before December in the report that was prepared for the Council by the volunteer committee: http://edinamn.gov/index.php?section=about_neighborhoods

Mary, there are several comments from you in the report so please be assured that they were not lost. We continued to forward comments to the Council in preparation for the January 22 public hearing on the issue. The Council is anticipated to take the matter up again at a work session in April.

Don’t you think it is about time we have a new name for the neighbourhood? Me and my https://www.australian-writings.net/ friends think that the name of this area is really outdated and needs a change.
